As I searched for an inexpensive alternative to Canon's TC80N3 the primary criticism I found in the reviews I read for the Satechi TR3MAA that it lacked an on and off switch. The Satechi developers must have read the same reviews. The most recent TR3MAA version now contains an on and off switch. I also discovered that contact with Satechi's tech support department in response to any of my questions has been both prompt and informative.

The remote has basicly all the same functionality as Canon timer remote, but costs near half of that. No big pluses, no minuses, just saves your money. Works with all Canon cameras with compatible connector (means all non-Rebel DSLRs), not just only with the listed.
The minor omission, it does not have off switch and does not have sleep mode, so uses battery all the time. Hopefully does not use it too much - no recharges yet.

I recently purchased this timer remote to do some night shooting (star trails primarily) with my 40D. I didn't feel like the Canon timer remote was worth $140, so I decided to give the Satechi timer remote a try. It works exactly as it's supposed to. The build quality is adequate, and I have no worries about throwing it into a gadget bag and hauling it around with me all evening.
The remote arrived well packaged and very quickly from Satechi.
The remote that I got has an on/off switch and does everything the Canon timer remote does. What more do you need to know? It works great and at half the cost of the Canon timer remote! It's a no brainer. If you need a timer remote, get this one.
UPDATE: Satechi contacted me directly to make sure I liked the product. I am incredibly impressed with their customer service agents who were very helpful and seemed to care whether I was satisfied with my purchase or not. A+ to Satechi!
